Prizes:
Each choir participating in the competition and/or the Festival will receive a certification of merit.Maximum points: 90 points
Gold diploma: 75–89 points
Silver diploma: 60–74 points
Bronze diploma: 45–59 points

Best Conductor Prize:
The judges will choose one of the participant choirs’ conductor for the Conductor Prize.

Participation rules

Non-competitive participation in the festival:
Choirs must have an approximately 20 minute long programme of secular and/or 8 minutes of sacred music (max. 2 pieces). There are no other rules or restrictions regarding the category of the choirs or the number of singers. The programme of the opening concert will be chosen by the organizing committee from the programme of the choirs.

Participation rules of the competition:
― Bring a contemporary choral (not older than 15 years) from the choir’s country of origin
― Bring (at least) two more pieces of the choir’s own choice, of different characters and different musical era
― Length of the programme of the competition: 12-15 minutes singing.
― Instrumental accompaniment is allowed to max 1 piece, of max 3 instruments.
You are required to provide an English translation to pieces that are not written in Latin, English, Italian, German or Hungarian.


Categories
Standard Category:
At least 75% of the choir’s singers are amateurs, i.e. they neither have a certificate, nor are they following undergraduate / graduate studies for music, except for the conductor, soloists and accompanists.

Professional Category:
There are only 25% or less of the singers holding no musical degree, nor following any studies in this direction. The jury has the right to recategorise applicants based on the audial material, which decision they need to communicate to the choir prior to the competition. The choir then may decide if they agree and would like to take part in the competition.

Standard Category 1st place winners may only apply for the Professional Category in the next two years.


Registration fee and conditions:
Registration fee: 60 Euro/ choir, payment is due together with the application form, non-refundable (except in case the choir cannot accept the jury’s recategorisation).

Participation fee for the Festival: 150 Euro/ choir
Participation fee for the Competition: 350 Euro/ choir
Participation fee for the Festival + Competition: 350 Euro/ choir

Registration fee is part of the participation fee if the registration is accepted.
One may participate at the festival and the competition or only one of them. Booking and financing travel costs and accommodation is the participants’ responsibility.

Refund:
50% refund possible upon cancellation between April 15 and 20 2024
25% refund possible upon cancellation between April 20 and 30 2024
0% refund possible upon cancellation after April 30 2024
Refund rules do not apply to the registration fee amount, only to the remaining amount

As additional information please indicate the name of the choir.

Please attach the programme, a short introduction of the choir and the conductor with a recent photo of the choir and of the conductor, and a 10 minutes long recording of the choir’s performance in MP3 (just participants in competition) to the application form. In case you intend to enter the competition please send 5 copyright copies of the original score (with translation, save Latin/English/Italian/German/Hungarian lyrics) of each work (non-returnable) by post, until 30 April 2024 the latest.

Application without copyright scores will have to be rejected. Using non-copyright material during the contest will result in exclusion from the competition. The programme cannot be changed after the scores have arrived.

In case of a large number of applicants, organizers may change scheduling of the days of the contest and acoustic repetition. Organizers must inform the choirs accordingly in advance.

Video and audio recordings may occur throughout the premises of the Vandor-Revesz Fesztival and International Choral Competition of Budapest and visitors/participants accept that they may appear on any such recording. Any visitor/participant to the Event henceforth consents to such recordings and therefore they may not stake any claim whatsoever against the event organisers, the producers of the recordings or the rightful users of such recordings.
